The army had kept a dignified silence over the location of the IPOB boss despite allegations by his lawyer that the army knew his whereabouts or may have been killed. The Edo State Government on Friday sacked a permanent secretary in the State Ministry of Youth and Special Duties, Dr. (Ms) Osayuware Idahosa and three other civil servants over allegation of padding the budget for the conduct of primary school examination to the tune of N283 million. Obaseki Dr. Idahosa, who served as Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Education at the time the alleged fraud was committed, was referred to the State Civil Service Commission for appropriate action, according to the rules and guidelines of the service. The decision was the outcome of an extraordinary session of the State Executive Committee meeting, headed by the Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaskei, in Government House, Benin City. The other officers involved in the alleged fraud are Barr. S. A. Erhunmwunse Edokpayi, Mrs. E.I. Ero-Ugiagbe and Mr. Lucky Adagbonyin. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has withdrawn its motion seeking an order of the Federal High Court in Abuja allowing it to serve the recall petition on Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, through substituted means rather than personal service. Justice Nnamdi Dimgba struck out the motion after INEC’s lawyer, Mr. Yunus Ustaz (SAN), announced its withdrawal in court on Thursday. Ustaz also maintained on Thursday that Melaye had been “dodging” service, as an attempt by the INEC to serve Melaye during the Senate’s plenary on Tuesday also failed. The judge also directed that all issues pertaining to the case should thereafter be taken to the Court of Appeal. He noted that since Melaye’s appeal against the court’s September 11 judgment of the court had been entered at the Court of Appeal, all pending applications, including the ones filed by Melaye for stay of execution of the verdict, should be taken to the Court of Appeal. A member of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB who was killed during the military invasion in Umuahia, Abia state capital has been laid to rest. The young man identified as Ahamefula Austin Nnadi who was said to have been shot by soldiers – was buried yesterday September 27th, 2017 at his hometown in Umuduruehie in Imo state. May his soul rest in peace.

In an originating motion filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja, Ejik prayed the court to give an order mandating General Buratai to produce Kanu in court on his next adjournment date for the criminal trial he is facing. The motion has the IPOB leader as the only applicant and the Chief of Army Staff as the only respondent. According to the application, the grounds for the relief include that the Kanu was, before he went missing, known to have lawfully exercised his constitutional right of freedom of association, peaceful assembly and self-determination. The application also said Kanu was still enjoying the bail granted him by the court, when the prosecution in his trial requested the court to revoke the bail. It also accused the Nigerian Army of acting under express command purportedly handed down by Buratai, and violently invaded the applicant’s home in Afara Ukwu Ibeku in Umuahia, the Abia State’s capital.

The police in Ogun State on Thursday said they had arrested two members of an armed robbery gang who shot and injured the Divisional Police Officer of Ogbere Police Division. The command added that a leader of the gang was killed during a shootout with the police. The DPO, CSP Adeyinka Akingbade, was shot after he led policemen in his division to a robbery scene at a hotel in Itele-Ijebu. He was said to have been ambushed by the robbers and shot at a close range. The Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) on Wednesday said it had recovered N4.2 billion in remittances from collecting banks into the federation account. Mr Shettima Gana, the commission’s acting Chairman, said this while inducting the lead consultants and other auditors on the verification and reconciliation of revenue collections and remittances by the collecting banks. The collecting banks collect excise duties and taxes on behalf of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). He said that the money was recovered during the exercise that was carried out on banks’ collections of these taxes and duties between January 2008 and June 2012. Gana said that there was about N20 billion that was still outstanding but had not been recovered from the banks.
